Ms Sherrill Bell
Ms Sherrill Bell was the CEO for a not-for-profit organisation, owned by nine governments of Australia, with considerable experience in trying to balance the diverse needs of clients with various government policies within the funding arrangements. Over the years she has participated in many advisory bodies within educational and government institutions. She retired from a CEO position due to the need to take on a primary carer role for her husband.
20 years experience working with diverse groups of people with varying types of disadvantage/disability including those with language and/or educational disadvantage, those who are visually and hearing impaired, and those who have physical disability.
She has worked towards ensuring that people with disability are able to exercise their “human rights” including proper recognition as individuals, access to entitlements and services, access to employment opportunities and treatment with fairness and justice.
Passionate about trying to make improvements for people with disability in the ACT and views the ACT Disability Advisory Council as one body that has the capacity to bring about change, feels she has the ability to contribute to the work of the advisory body because of past experience. This includes:
- working with governments (federal, state and territory)
- participation on other advisory bodies
- working with disadvantaged people
- understanding not-for-profit organisations
- understanding the impact of financial constraints on business and service activities
- a passion to “make things better” for both the disabled and their families
