Homelessness Strategies and Services

Assistant Manager – Jason Aitchison

The Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) funds transitional, supported accommodation and a broad range of flexible support services that assist individuals and families to break cycles of homelessness and poverty.

SAAP is an important part of Australia’s overall response to homelessness and of the broader social safety net preventing disadvantage in the community. It is the ACT’s primary response to homelessness and women escaping domestic violence and recognises that homelessness is a complex issue requiring flexible and integrated responses across the human service delivery system.

SAAP aims to support people to transition from homelessness into independent and sustainable living within their community.

Homelessness Advisory Group

Assistant Manager – Margaret Russell

The Homelessness Advisory Group, comprising government and community representatives, was established by the ACT Government in June 2002 to develop a draft ACT Homelessness Strategy for consideration by Mr Bill Wood, Minister for Housing, Disability and Community Services, by December 2003.

The Strategy is being developed through a whole of government and community approach, working with non government organisations and service users.
