A new housing choice for older social housing tenants.
Housing ACT is building more than 350 new homes over the next year with the help of the Commonwealth Government’s Nation Building and Jobs Plan.
We have planned almost half of these homes for our older social housing tenants. They have been designed to be easy to live in, easy to maintain and more comfortable. The homes have also been designed so that they can be modified as occupants age.
Each home will have two generous bedrooms allowing tenants to keep their existing belongings and also to have guests stay over, such as their grandchildren. They have been purposely designed by some of the best architects in Canberra to increase the feeling of space and light.
The homes will be insulated to a 6 star energy rating. This will make the homes more comfortable in the summer and cheaper to heat in the winter.
There will be secure yards for those with a pet or a green thumb and there will be secure, undercover parking for those with a vehicle.
Housing ACT has now closed its expression of interest stage and is assessing the eligibility and status of the clients.
All those who submitted an expression of interest will be contacted in the coming weeks outlining whether they were successful to submit a formal application in the first round.
