Introduction

The Community Linkages Program is a program of Housing and Community Services that links public and community housing tenants to a range of support services and facilitates community building.  The Program aims to reduce poverty and isolation by engaging tenants and fostering a stronger sense of community.  Program funding is divided into three components.

Objectives Of The Community Linkages Program

The Program seeks broad social objectives including:

  • Safer living environments
  • More sustainable tenancies
  • Enhanced social interaction within Housing communities;
  • Enhanced social interaction between community and public housing tenants and the broader community;
  • Linking community and public housing tenants to employment opportunities, community services and a range of support services; and
  • Decreased poverty for housing tenants.

Tenant Initiated Grants

Who Can Apply For Funding - How Much Is Available?

The Community Linkages Program has $118,000 funding available for community projects that will benefit Canberra's community and public housing tenants.

The Department is inviting applications from public and community housing tenants' groups for funding.

A maximum funding of up to $5,000 will be available for individual applications.

The program is looking for projects that will help to:

  • Achieve safer living environments
  • Enable more long term tenancies
  • Enhance social interaction within Housing communities
  • Enhance social interaction between community and public housing tenants and the broader community
  • Link tenants to employment opportunities and to community and support services; and
  • Reduce poverty.
