Redevelopment of Land in Braddon and Reid

Community Session No 4
Housing and Community Services has submitted a planning report to the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate for the redevelopment of land in Braddon and Reid.
Some of the land is occupied by public housing - Allawah Court and Currong Apartments and Bega Court (Section 52 Braddon and Section 7 Reid).
The remainder of the land is occupied by various organisations which form part of the Catholic Church (Section 57 Braddon).
The planning report has been prepared including advice from consultants and input from the community. There were meetings held with the tenants of Bega and Allawah Court and the broader community in April and June 2010. There have been separate meetings with industry organisations and other community groups.
The Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate has issued a draft Territory Plan Variation which allows for the redevelopment of the land in Braddon and Reid for housing and commercial uses. A more dense form of development is proposed for the site.
Housing and Community Services is conducting consultation on the redevelopment of the land in Braddon and Reid. This consultation is independent to the consultation being conducted by the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate.
The consultation on the Territory Plan variation closes on 20 February 2012. The Territory Plan variation and associated documents can be found at www.environment.act.gov.au 
A community information session was held on 16 December 2011. The next community information sessions (No.4) is planned for:

Commencing: 6:00pm
The purpose of the sessions is to make sure that the views of as many people as possible are considered and taken into account in determining the future of the site.
Details of the community information sessions will be placed in the Community Noticeboard in the Canberra Times, on this website and www.communityengagement.act.gov.au in addition to notices being sent to households.
