About Multicultural Affairs

The Office of Multicultural Affairs provides strategic advice to the Minister for Multicultural Affairs on issues affecting people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The aim of this advice is to promote multiculturalism in the ACT - multiculturalism is the right of all Canberrans to express and share their cultural heritage within the Territory's legal and social frameworks and to contribute to, and participate in, all levels of public life without prejudice or discrimination.

Our Key Activities:

Operation of a Work Experience and support Program for unemployed people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;

Administration of the ACT Multicultural Grants Program;

Recognition of overseas qualifications, for Application for Australian Educational Assessment;

Administration of the ACT Multicultural Community Languages Grants;

Administration of the ACT Multicultural Community Radio Grants;

Communications program including newsletters providing information of interest to multicultural communities; and

Interpreting services
