ACT Multicultural Grants Program 2009-2010

The aim of the ACT Multicultural Grants Program is to enhance the ACT Community through the development of innovative projects that contribute to sustainable communities by highlighting and promoting cultural diversity and social harmony.

The objective of the ACT Multicultural Grants Program is to assist community organisations in:

  • developing initiatives that will advance multiculturalism in the ACT;
  • promoting the ACT as a socially cohesive and harmonious community;
  • fostering opportunities for community groups to maintain, develop and express their cultural diversity.

For 2009-10, funds will be allocated in accordance with the following priority areas that contribute to sustainable communities in the ACT:

  • activities that assist Canberra’s new and emerging multicultural communities to fully participate in Canberra’s community life;
  • projects that enhance community relations in the ACT;
  • activities (such as production of newsletters) that contribute to information dissemination within the community;
  • proposals that enable multicultural communities to express their cultural heritage through participation in the 2010 National Multicultural Festival; and
  • projects should also take account of the Government’s broader sustainability commitment by aiming to reduce energy and water consumption, generate less waste and minimise resource use.

For 2009-10, items not funded include:

  • the purchase of photocopiers, computers, machinery, stage/venue equipment, vehicles or capital equipment of any kind;
  • capital works including the cost of repairs, extensions or renovation to buildings as well as the maintenance or promotion of places of worship;
  • ongoing programs or recurrent activities and projects, with the exception of events under the National Multicultural Festival category;
  • retrospective costs for projects or activities that have already taken place; and
    projects and events which are run primarily for commercial fundraising purposes (e.g. food stalls during the 2010 National Multicultural Festival).
