Work Experience and Support Program (WESP)

The Work Experience and Support Program (WESP) is designed to help Canberrans from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds enter the workforce by providing an opportunity to improve skills and confidence, as well as develop important networks within the ACT Public Service.
The Work Experience and Support Program aims to provide opportunities for participants to:
- improve their IT, writing, office administration, and communication skills;
- gain practical job seeking skills;
- prepare them for entry into the workforce;
- gain practical experience in an Australian workplace;
- enhance their opportunities to access and secure sustainable employment; and
- provide an opportunity to establish a personal network of contacts for future work and training options.
WESP participants are offered four weeks of formal office skills training plus an eight-week work experience placement within the ACT Public Service. Successful WESP graduates will receive nationally recognised qualifications in Business and Government.
To be eligible for the WESP, applicants must:
- be migrants with Australian Citizenship OR Permanent Residency; and
- be able to commit to a full time 12 week program.
Priority may be given to:
- applicants who have not been in meaningful employment during the past 12 months;
- applicants not currently studying;
- applicants whose study commitments are outside business hours (9.00am 5.00pm, Monday to Friday);
- applicants who can demonstrate their ability to work effectively as a member of a team; and
- applicants with the confidence to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
