Background
Site Selection Process
A Site Selection Report was released for a 6-week community consultation period on
3 August 2005. The report identified four possible locations for the new Youth Detention Centre - Gunghalin (near Mitchell), Kenny, Fyshwick and Symonston.
Extensive consultation was undertaken with key stakeholders, government agencies and the community. Four community information sessions were held - two in Gungahlin and two in Narrabundah.
Following the consultation and further investigations an assessment of each of the locations was undertaken and the preferred site was identified as Mitchell, near Gungahlin. Detail of the assessment is in the Final Site Selection report.
