Bimberi Change Management Project
Recognising that Bimberi has been operational for two years this December, and has been required to respond to higher numbers of young people, exhibiting complex behaviour, a review of Bimberi will commence from January 2011. The focus of the review will be the enhanced development of practices and policy in Bimberi and maximizing the contribution to rehabilitation outcomes for young residents, and promoting a positive work environment for staff.
This work is being progressed by CSD and is independent of the Bimberi Review currently being undertaken by the ACT Human Rights Commission. Further information about the Bimberi Review being undertaken by the Human Rights Commission is available at www.hrc.act.gov.au

ACT Government Submission to Bimberi Review
ACT Government submission to the Children and Young People Commissioner’s Inquiry into the Youth Justice System in the ACT and the Human Rights Commissioner’s Audit into Conditions of Detention at the Bimberi Youth Justice Centre.
The ACT youth justice system has undergone significant transition over the past 3 years signified by the implementation of the Children and Young People Act 2008 and the commissioning of the Bimberi Youth Justice Centre (Bimberi) in 2008 within a human rights compliant framework.
