Children and Family Centre Opens in Belconnen
The Minister for Early Childhood Peter Garrett and the Chief Minister Jon Stanhope today opened a multi-purpose child and family centre funded through the National Partnership Agreement on Indigenous Early Childhood Development in West Belconnen.
The West Belconnen Child and Family Centre is a long-awaited addition to the Canberra community. In August 2009, development of the centre was announced with funding from both the ACT and Commonwealth Governments. The Commonwealth Government contributed funds to the development, through the Indigenous Early Childhood Development National Partnership Agreement. The new Centre will be universally accessible to all families in the West Belconnen area and will have an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander focus.
The West Belconnen Child and Family Centre opened for business on 27 April 2011 and was officially opened by Chief Minister Jon Stanhope and Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth Peter Garrett on the 2 May 2011.
The Child and Family Centre is a ‘one-stop-shop’ model of service delivery providing a range of services to children and families, with a focus on early intervention and prevention in the early years of life. The centres offer maternal and child health services, therapy services, counselling, family support, groups and community development programs.
