The ACT Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services has responsibility for a wide range of human services functions in the ACT, including multicultural affairs, community services, older people, women, public and community housing services and policy, children, youth and family support services and policy, disability policy and services, therapy services, Child and Family Centres, the ACT Government Concessions Program, homelessness, community engagement, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, and community disaster recovery.

The Office for Children, Youth and Family Support (Office) is an administrative unit of the Department that provides care and protection services to children and young people; family and community support; youth justice services; and the monitoring and licensing of children's services.

In bringing these related functions together in one organisation, the Department provides a more integrated approach to the development of policy and the delivery of community services.

The Department is committed to supporting workplace diversity, particularly through the employment of people with a disability. The Employment Framework Toolkit for People with a Disability is designed to provide specific information about the process of gaining employment within DHCS as well as provide managers with knowledge about the resources available to them to employ and support staff with a disability.
