Psychology Services
Psychologists in Therapy ACT work with clients and their families to help manage behavioural difficulties. They do this by applying their knowledge to assess, diagnose, prevent, and treat problems associated with how people think, feel and behave.
What problems does Psychology help with?
Psychologists can assist with the identification and treatment of behavioural or emotional issues present in children and adults with developmental delays and disabilities.
How does Psychology help?
Assessment - formal and informal assessments in the areas of cognition, development, behaviour, skills, living arrangements and emotional states. Assessments are carried out in a variety of settings including the clinic, home, school, workplace and other community facility visits as appropriate.
Individualised, professional interventions – interventions are based on the outcome of assessments and are conducted using a range of therapeutic approaches that focus on the interests of the client and may include Positive Programming, Cognitive Behaviour Management, and Solution Focused Therapy.
Education programs are provided on aspects of development including disorders, disabilities and delays in development, child rearing practices and other developmental issues.
Program Implementation – includes introduction, monitoring, evaluation and review, as necessary.
How are services provided?
- Assessment, information and advice regarding behavioural, developmental, adaptive or emotional concerns
- Individual or group therapy sessions
- Education programs for clients / carers
- Development and implementation of programs or strategies in the clients’ normal daily environment to allow for practice and generalisation of skills
- Development of home and school programs in collaboration with the client, parent, teachers and carers
