A principle aim of this initiative is to ensure that mature age workers remain actively involved in the workforce for as long as possible. It is evident that labour force particpation declines sharply with age and it is expected that 'baby boomer' retirement patters over the next 15 years will see the Australian workforce grow by only 12,500 per year for the entire decade of the 2020's. This compared with an estimated 170,000 new entrants to the workforce currently.
The Silver Lining initiative raises business awareness of the benefits and implications of an ageing workforce, represents a partnership with the Ministerial Advisory Council for Ageing and the ACT and Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is based on a similar initiative developed by the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Complimenting the Silver Lining project is the Federal Government website, JobWise, which provides information for employers, mature age job seekers and mature age workers.
