Life’s Reflections Photographic Competition

ACT Minister for Ageing, Joy Burch MLA, officially launched the 2011-12 competition at the recent Retirement and Lifestyle Expo at EPIC.

Life’s Reflections is a community photographic competition which is open to all ACT residents and those residing within a 60 kilometre radius of the ACT border.

The competition has four entrant categories:

  • Primary Students (Kindergarten – Year 6);
  • Secondary Students (Year 7- Year 12);
  • Open Amateur (Aged 18-59 years); and
  • Seniors (aged 60 years and over).

The competition seeks photographic images which:

  • Reflect the themes of older people staying connected and involved in their community or simply enjoying life;
  • Promote the value and importance of relationships across different generations – both in families and in the wider community;
  • Highlight the many activities and features which make Canberra a truly great age-friendly city of the world for older people to enjoy; and
  • Portray older people in humorous situations in their day to day lives.

There are fabulous prizes to be won including quality cameras from Harvey Norman Superstore, Fyshwick, Gift Vouchers from Ted’s Camera Stores, Professional Mounting and Framing from Civic Pro Frame, Dendy Cinemas Premier Lounge Passes, Koko Black Chocolates and Book Voucher Gift Packs from Paperchain Bookstore in Manuka.

We have simplified the entry requirements for the competition -  entrants need only to submit a computer disc or memory stick containing their images and not
actual photographs. Our major sponsor, Harvey Norman Superstore, Fyshwick, will undertake all photographic printing of entries to our specifications and requirements. Entrants can now submit up to 4 photographic images in the competition.

All entrants will have the opportunity to have their photographic images exhibited in the Canberra Centre in March 2012 and in ACT public libraries at a later date.
There are also opportunities for entrants to have their photographic images published and credited in the print media, the annual Capital Chemist Community
Calendar and in ACT Government publications.

The entry and information brochure for the 2011-12 competition can be downloaded from this website or you can request copies of the brochure to be sent to your
postal address by contacting the Office for Ageing during normal business hours on 6205 3113 or email communitypolicy@act.gov.au.

The competition will close on 1 December 2011.
