The Office for Ageing is a unit within the Governance, Advocacy and Community Policy Group of the Community Services Directorate. The Office provides the ACT Government with policy advice on positive ageing and it administers funding for positive ageing initiatives such as the ACT Seniors Card and the Life’s Reflections Photographic Competition.

Jacinta Evans
Manager
Oversees and directs the work of the Office, advises the Directorate and ACT Government on positive ageing and represents the interests of ACT Seniors on various Government and community committees and working groups.

Gerry McKeon
Senior Policy Officer
Responsible for supporting the Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing, administering the Seniors Grants and Sponsorship program, Seniors Information Online and advising on the Seniors Care and the Age-Friendly City Survey.

Anna John
Senior Policy Officer
Responsible for the coordination of the Strategic Plan for Positive Ageing, the Older Persons Assembly, the Canberra Age-Friendly City Network and the Elder Abuse Prevention Network.

Lindsay Burge
Project Officer

Responsible for events, including the Life's Reflections Photographic Competition and is the ACT Government contact person for Seniors Week and the Canberra Retirement and Lifestyle Expo.

How do we Serve the Community?

The primary focus of the ACT Office for Ageing is the promotion of positive ageing in the ACT community.

The Office for Ageing:

  • provides policy advice on positive ageing issues to the ACT Government
  • advises on seniors issues through participation in Government committees
  • monitors the implementation of the ACT Strategic Plan for Positive Ageing 2010-2014: Towards and Age-friendly City
  • administers funding for the Seniors Card and Seniors Week
  • manages the Seniors Grants and Sponsorship Program
  • manages the ACT Elder Abuse Prevention Program
  • provides information stalls on ACT Government services at the Seriors Week Expo, the Canberra Retirement and Lifestyle Expo and other seniors events
  • provides a Seniors Sanctuary at the National Multicultural Festival Food and Dance Spectacular
  • provides secretariat support to the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing
