ACT Regional Community Bus Service

On Friday 4 July 2008, the Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope MLA, launched a new ACT Regional Community Bus Service. The service is designed to improve the social inclusion and community participation of people who find it difficult to use regular bus services e.g. seniors and other people with mobility limitations.

A total of six minibuses will be on the road by the end of July, covering all regions of the ACT. Each bus is wheelchair accessible with a hoist at the rear of the vehicle. Access to the service will largely be between peak hours.

The initiative was announced in late 2007 as part of the second appropriation of the 2007-2008 ACT Budget. $2.8 million has been allocated over five years in a partnership between ACTION, the Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services, and the Regional Community Services.
