Community Development Services Grants

Communty Support and Infrastructure Grants

The Community Support and Infrastructure Grants program provides funding for projects undertaken by community organisations that provide key services to ACT residents.

The funding assists a wide range of projects that support the priorities and goals of the Canberra Social Plan.

The objectives of the program are to fund projects that support community sector viability; provide for community inclusion; assist small community organisations to access information technology resources or improving the environmental sustainability of community facilities.

The grants target three areas: community support and capacity projects, non-fixed infrastructure and equipment funding and capital works and fixed infrastructure funding to community owned facilities.

Carer Recognition Grants Program

The following initiatives were funded under the 2008-09 Carer Recognition Grants Program.

  • Aboriginal Carers Respite Program will support the direct emotional, social, cultural and physical wellbeing of Aboriginal people in Canberra who are providing in-home respite care for their people (Burrunju Aboriginal Corporation)
  • Family Matters will provide early intervention support for carers who are relinquishing the primary care role when their loved one enters residential care and continue to provide a family support group, which meets twice a month to support these carers (Salvation Army)
  • The Coping with Caring Program will provide an education initiative to support those who care for an older person in the community. It will provide a series of eight week programs, which aim to better prepare individuals across a range of areas from managing stress, options for support and daily practices to benefit their quality of life (Illawarra Retirement Trust)
  • Improving Transition Support: Identifying Needs in Young Carers aged 18-25 will undertake a research project to inform the development of improved early identification systems to better support Young Carers aged 18-25 (Carers ACT)

These Programs will be delivered from 1 July 2009 – 30 June 2010.
