Vehicle Registration - Licenses

The ACT Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services administers the ACT Concessions Program. The program aims to improve the affordability of essential services for low-income residents of the ACT.

Persons eligible for a concession

1. Holders of a current Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) pensioner concession card.

Registration fee payable for a privately registered vehicle such as a passenger car, forward controlpassenger vehicle, off-road passenger vehicle, a bus or goods carrying vehicle with no more than 4.5 GVM or a goods carrying trailer with no morethan 250kg tare mass or 750kg GVM,

For the registration of one vehicle only whenregistration is issued or
renewed in the name of the person entitled to theconcession.

100%

Driver Licence fee payable for aprovisional or full licence.

For the issue or renewal of a provisional or full licence in the name of the person entitled to the concession.

2. Holders of a current Repatriation Health Card (‘gold card’) issued bythe Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

100%

4. Holders of a Seniors Card with a gas/electric powered vehicle

Registration fee payable for a privately registered vehicle such as a passenger car, forward controlpassenger vehicle, off-road passenger vehicle, a bus or goods carrying vehicle with no more than 4.5 GVM or a goods carrying trailer with no morethan 250kg tare mass or 750kg GVM,

For the registration of one vehicle only whenregistration is issued or
renewed in the name of the person entitled to theconcession.

5. Primary Producers certified as primary producer by a registered tax agent, qualified accountant or theirlatest tax assessment.

45%

Registration fee payable for goodscarrying vehicles, trailers or tractorswith a GVM not exceeding 4.5 tonnes.Good carrying vehicles must beregistered for business use.

For the registration of up to two goods carrying vehicles, one trailer and one tractor when registration is issuedor renewed in the name of the primary producer.

6. Primary Producers with gas/electric powered vehicles, certified as primary producer by a registered tax agent, qualified accountant or theirlatest tax assessment.

55%

Registration fee payable for goodscarrying vehicles, trailers or tractorswith a GVM not exceeding 4.5 tonnes.Good carrying vehicles must beregistered for business use.

For the registration of up to two goods carrying vehicles, one trailer and one tractor when registration is issuedor renewed in the name of the primary producer.

7. Registered operators of gas/electricpowered vehicles.

20%

Registration fee payable for therelevant motor vehicle that is to beregistered as gas/electric poweredvehicle.

For the issue or renewal of registration of every vehicle that is gas/electric powered.

8. Person unemployed for more than 6months (confirmed by Centrelink) and holder of a Health Care Card issued by Centrelink.

50%

Driver Licence fee payable for aprovisional or full licence.Short term registration surcharge has been reduced from $25 to $10.

For the issue or renewal of a one year provisional or a one year full licence in the name of the person entitled to the concession
