$20,000 scholarship for ACT women making a difference

Canberra women involved in law enforcement, care and protection, or professional support services for women who are victims of violence, are being encouraged to apply for a $20,000 scholarship to help develop their careers and further skills.

Minister for Women Joy Burch said the Audrey Fagan Post Graduate Scholarship Program assists its recipients to undertake post-graduate study and professional development in the areas of law enforcement, care and protection, and victim support.

"The $20,000 scholarship will give a local woman the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge which can be applied to her area of expertise," Ms Burch said.

"Our 2010 recipient, who is a care and protection case-worker and crisis counsellor, used her scholarship to complete a Masters of Clinical Psychology and it enabled her to achieve her goal of becoming a child psychologist, specialising in the treatment of childhood trauma.

Ms Burch encouraged all local women in law enforcement, care and protection, or professional support services to apply for the scholarship, which will help them to further their careers and build their skills.

The scholarship program was established in 2007-08 to honour former ACT Chief Police Audrey Fagan and her contribution to the promotion of women in public life.
