ACT Minister for Women, Katy Gallagher MLA, today called for nominations for the ACT International Women's Day Awards which will form part of the celebrations for the 2010 United Nations International Day of Women on 8 March.
"The awards recognise women in the ACT community whose outstanding achievements have enriched the lives of others," Ms Gallagher said.
"Women contribute to the wellbeing of our community through a variety of roles and capacities. The awards are a public acknowledgement of ordinary women whose contribution has made a significant difference in our community.
"In 2009, awards recipients included Ms Louise Taylor, Ms Betty Connelly, YWCA of Canberra and the Barnardos Indigenous Supported Play Group and Women's Network.
"The awards raise awareness of the extraordinary work that often goes on quietly and consistently and that really makes a difference in our community," Ms Gallagher said.
