Teens flying high with Audrey Fagan enrichment

An Air Force Pilot, Ballerina and Violin-Maker are just some of the career opportunities teenage girls are perusing with the help of the 2010 Audrey Fagan Young Women's Enrichment Grants Program.

Minister for Women Joy Burch said the grants program provides funding of up to $2,000 for young women between the ages of 13 and 18-years.
"The Audrey Fagan Young Women's Enrichment Grants will help seven young girls follow their dreams and achieve their goals by assisting them financially," Ms Burch said.
"One recipient in particular has begun her journey as a pilot and aims to continue her studies in mathematics in order to achieve her ultimate goal, which is to become a pilot in the Australian Air Force.

"It's important for young people to pursue their dreams and have the confidence to choose a career pathway that can be challenging and hard-work."
A young photographer who received $1,000 hopes to become a member of ‘Photoaccess' at the Manuka Arts Centre, which presents exhibitions, provides courses, publications and special projects, and offers learning opportunities in digital photography.

Other successful applicants for 2010 included a ballerina, who is undertaking a two year full-time ballet program in Sydney and hopes to join the Royal Academy of Dance and a violin maker who wants to improve her skills and learn more about the trade.

The Audrey Fagan Young Women's Enrichment Grants Program is a component of the Audrey Fagan Scholarships Program, which honours ACT Chief Police Officer Audrey Fagan and her contribution to the promotion of women in public life.
